North Central Wisconsin Donate Life
North Central Wisconsin Donate Life (NCWDL) is a non-profit organization established in 2007 with a group of volunteers comprised of organ recipients and donor families with the intent to promote organ and tissue donation, as well as bone marrow and cornea donation awareness in the north central Wisconsin area.
NCWDL also provides support to donor families, transplant recipients, those considering transplant or those still on a wait list, and their families and caregivers.
In addition we offer our support to Restoring Hope Transplant House in Middleton, WI and UW-Organ & Tissue Donation. Two scholarships are being established, one at NTC for students in the nursing program, and one at Marion High School, where Ted graduated in 1966.
About Our Co-Founder Ted Gerbig
Ted's gratitude for his single lung transplant led him on a mission to promote organ donation everywhere he went. In addition to establishing NCWDL, Ted shared his story everywhere from doctor's offices, symposiums and conferences, to many media appearances on TV, newspapers, advertisements and a magazine article with Ted featured on the cover. Ted was an amazing voice for the mission, and was selected for inclusion in the UW Health calendar promoting organ donation. He represented Wisconsin's organ recipients with a rose in his name on the Donate Life float in the 2013 Rose Bowl Parade and was an active volunteer with UW Organ and Tissue Donation (UW OTD) for many years.
Sadly, Ted passed away on July 12, 2013, exactly ten years and one day after his transplant. During his last TV interview, just two weeks prior to his passing, Ted received a Jefferson Award in recognition of his work in promoting organ donation.
All of us at NCWDL are so proud of Ted and his dedication in promoting organ and tissue donation education and awareness, and will continue with his mission.
